PATIENT-CENTERED OUTCOMES RESEARCH

Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) helps people and their caregivers communicate and make informed healthcare decisions, allowing their voices to be heard in assessing the value of healthcare options.

Pregnant Woman Being Examined At Home By Midwife

In 2014, our team was awarded a grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to better understand women’s preferences and expectations in childbirth. In collaboration with our Childbirth Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) Partnership, we developed CBEX. CBEX stands for ChildBirth EXperience Survey and is administered online in two parts. Part 1 happens in the third trimester. It asks questions about a woman’s pregnancy history and what kind of services she would like to receive in the hospital for her childbirth. Part 2 happens approximately two months after a woman delivers. It asks about what happened in the hospital during her delivery. Today, we are implementing CBEX in 10 diverse California hospitals.
